Competition to solve freshwater issues begins in Atlantic Canada

Atlantic Canada is home to a spectacular system of dynamic freshwater and marine environments. Water is core to ecosystems and communities across the region. The Atlantic Canada AquaHacking Challenge brings students, developers, designers, scientists, programmers, engineers, technology enthusiasts and entrepreneurs together to form interdisciplinary teams to tackle different freshwater challenges facing these important ecosystems.

New Saint Mary’s Exploration Fund Invests in Blockchain-based Real Estate Venture

Fractional Finance is the first company to receive an investment from the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre Exploration. Started by SMUEC in 2021, the fund supports excellent business ideas from Saint Mary’s students that requires a capital investment to take an idea and make it a reality.

Enactus Saint Mary’s Secures Spot in National Finals

For the ninth time in 11 years, Enactus Saint Mary’s is off to the final round of competition at the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Toronto this September. At this in-person competition, Saint Mary’s University will compete against Toronto Metropolitan University, Wilfred Laurier University, University of Ottawa and Okanagan College for the title of national champion

Ropeless Fishing Reduces Harm to Whales

Under Engineering professor Dr. Rhinelander’s supervision, Ross Arsenault, Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer of Ashored Innovations, and Saint Mary’s Alumni (‘20), explored respooling and resetting buoy lines from trap fishing applications into caged ropeless fishing systems.

Highlighted Programs


Talent Hub

Through co-operative education and internship placements, training, Entrepreneurial Mindset Success Certificate, and an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, the RBC Talent Hub is an answer to our students’ requests for additional hands-on learning opportunities. The skills developed through this program aim to give students a leg up in the job hunt and help them to excel in the workplace post-graduation.

March Madness

The competition showcases post-secondary student pitchers throughout the month of March. Modelled after the NCAA March Madness basketball competition, 64 student entrepreneurs from across Canada will be selected to compete head-to-head in brackets as they strive to eventually be declared the best in the country

Digitization Program

SMUEC has partnered with Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) to modernize digital assets for cutting edge Atlantic Canadian companies to help the region thrive in a virtual ecosystem.

ACOA’s support means we can offer projects subsidized at 75% of the total project cost up to a maximum project value of $5,000 for companies operating in certain sectors. Some restrictions apply so please contact us to learn more

The Sandbox Ignition program is a 10-week program that will provide students with access to training, resources, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and opportunities to engage with mentors already in the industry

Employment Program

Options Youth

Options Youth is a employment wage subsidy program funded by Service Canada and facilitated by the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre and Enactus Saint Mary’s. The program consist of personalized skill training and  paid work placements to help Nova Scotian youth overcome barriers to enter the workforce.

The program consist of two stream: Stream 1: Work Training & Stream 2: Work Ready
