Helpful Tools for Working Remotely 


Transitioning into remote work can be overwhelming and time consuming. We have put together a list of helpful tools to make the transition as easy and smooth as possible for you and your team. Our team has started to utilize a lot of the tools listed below and we can attest to how simple they have made our switch from office to home.

Remote File Access 


A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, allows you to create a secure connection to another network over the Internet. Anyone can use a VPN anywhere whether you’re working at home or on the road! It’s really simple to use and both mobile and desktop platforms are covered with this technology. Our SMUEC team has used Forticlient to help us move into an online workspace.

Shared OneDrive

You can use OneDrive to share photos, Microsoft Office documents, other files, and entire folders with people. The files and folders you store in OneDrive are private until you decide to share them and you can see who a OneDrive file is shared with or stop sharing at any time. Shared documents are a great way to collaboratively work from home.

Remote Desktop Access


TeamViewer is a proprietary software application for remote control, desktop sharing, online meetings, web conferencing and file transfer between computers.

Google Chrome Remote Desktop

Chrome Remote Desktop is a remote desktop software tool developed by Google that allows a user to remotely control another computer. Chrome Remote Desktop is available on the internet on your computer. You will need to download the Chrome Remote Desktop app to use your mobile device for remote access.

Team Communication


Slack is a messaging tool, allowing for easier and faster communication among teammates. It offers solutions for remote collaboration, as team members can use Slack channels, including apps for iOS and Android, to send messages and comments in real-time. 

Over the past year our team has used slack to better our internal communication. It has allowed us to bond with each other as well as efficiently keep up to date with all of our events taking place.

Zoom meetings

Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Zoom users can choose to record sessions, collaborate on projects, and share or annotate on one another’s screens, all with one easy-to-use platform. 

As our workspace has transitioned online, our team has been using Zoom on a regular basis for meetings, coaching sessions, and consulting. It was proven to be a reliable platform with interactive and helpful features.
