Opportunity East

Is your business ready to expand into the global marketplace?

In an ever-increasing ‘global marketplace’, China is front and centre as a developed country with huge market potential and cutting edge technologies; as Nova Scotia-based business’ seek exporting potential and expansion opportunities, China has become a destination of choice for founders.

The Province of Nova Scotia has placed a premium on developing a strong relationship with China for many years now, with our leaders working tirelessly to advance the province’s business relationship; Nova Scotia’s business dealings with China increased consistently since 2011’s $114 million in exports, rising to $719 million in 2018. With this growth comes opportunity, and many companies based in the province are trying to find new and innovative ways to break into the Chinese market while also attracting Chinese investors and clients.

The Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre, in partnership with the Saint Mary’s University Confucius Institute, proposes “Opportunity East”, a program that will provide leading companies insight into doing business in/with China-based entities. Participants accepted into the program will travel to China where they will spend 15 days learning and exploring possibilities. The traveling Opportunity East cohort will receive a robust mix of training opportunities, build capacity in essential cultural sensitivities, and participate in infrastructure tours and gain access and introductions to key industry leaders, providing a framework for ensuring successful interactions with exporting partners in China.
